The 8 Modules

Key Topics in each Module for Workshop 4

Module 1 & 2

Do external events MAKE us feel a certain way? You will see real-life examples from the founders of psychology that display that interpretations, and not events, determine our feelings.

The ABCDE Model is explained which is at the core of cognitive-behavioral therapy taught by Dr. Albert Ellis.

How are our interpretations and underlying beliefs formed? Professor Daniel Kahneman differentiates between System 1 & 2 thinking. Most people are not even aware that there is a constant inner conversation going on in their heads.

Why is it that the same event can lead to a different level of feelings for different people? Some people will react to a disappointing event by being concerned and yet motivated to make a change. Other people will react to the same event by being anxious or depressed.

Introducing ‘Psychological Self-Structure’ and how gaps in this structure are responsible for all our feelings and their intensity

Have you ever felt anxious about your anxiety or depressed about being depressed? These are called secondary emotional disturbances. How can we break this cycle?

Dr. Albert Ellis brilliantly condensed all irrational general demanding beliefs into just 3 irrational core demanding beliefs. He confirmed that at least one of these 3 irrational beliefs is present underlying EVERY emotional disturbance.

The scientific and logical method for reducing intense and debilitating feelings to just uncomfortable feelings. Learn just 3 Questions that can deescalate any intense feeling to just an uncomfortable feeling.

Module 3 & 4

How long does a feeling last? We will explore the American neuroanatomist, Jill Bolte Taylor Ph.D. and Pema Chodron’s perspective. We will explain why it seems a feeling can be prolonged.

Understanding why a feeling is always valid although it is sometimes generated by an invalid thought.

There is often a conflict between an actual experience and thoughts about the experience.

How was your “I” self-concept created according to Dr. Alfred Adler?

Is an inferior self-concept always unhealthy or can it motivate us to succeed?

The Philosophical and Psychological reasons why you cannot rate personhood according to Alfred Korzybski.
The Mindful reason why you cannot rate personhood.

Is there even a separate ‘me’ that can control thoughts and feelings?

Understanding how and why the ego is born into existence. The positives and negatives of an ego.

You only take other people’s opinions personally because of how it relates to your own opinion of yourself.

Module 5 & 6

The Illusion of Free Choice. A discussion about determinism and free will to understand how much control we have over our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Is it really possible to practice acceptance?

We will introduce you to what we call System 3 thinking, which is different from your System 1 & 2 processes. System 3 thinking is your only constant experience. It was generated with your first breath in this world, and it will be the same with your last breath in this world.

When you have inner conflict, there is wasted energy and a battle of energy ensues in different directions. It is impossible to communicate effectively and make logical choices when you are stuck in a cycle of conflict. When there is no inner conflict, all energy is brought into being and focus.

What is the difference between a value and a goal?

Victor Frankl explains that there are 3 universal ways that man can give meaning to his or her life.

How to differentiate between judging behaviors and the person doing the behaviors, whether it is you or someone else.

Module 7 & 8

How to create your own personal Values Mission Statement.

The SMART method for setting practical goals which will ensure you create defined and achievable goals.

How to do a Cost-Benefit Analysis to decide what brings you VALUE in your life.

The only way you can sit in your neutral and unbiased center is by turning the mind inwards. You move to ‘expansive awareness’ from ‘constricted awareness’ which blocks or colors facts. “Observation Meditation” allows you to connect to this source within you.

For this Observation Meditation, you will set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Eventually, you can apply this observation meditation with your eyes open and in any place. At its core, this is not meditation or even a method. You applying observation to external and internal processes without identification and bias, which will become more natural as time goes on. We will practice this life-changing method in this session.

The 4-4-6-2 breath exercise to destress and deescalate feelings.

The 7-Step TEBA Process of Self-Inquiry “FYI SAFE” will be applied to building true self-confidence. It takes about 3-5 minutes.

Simple practical methods to practice self-confidence in your everyday life.
